Yuncheng City is located in the southwest of Shanxi Province, in the Yellow River Golden Triangle area at the junction of Shanxi, Shaanxi, and Henan provinces. It is the "southern gateway" of Shanxi Province. The total area of the city is 14106 square kilometers, with jurisdiction over 1 district (Salt Lake District), 2 cities (Yongji City, Hejin City), 10 counties (Linyi County, Wanrong County, Wenxi County, Jishan County, Xinjiang County, Jiang County, Yuanqu County, Xia County, Pinglu County, Ruicheng County), and a permanent population of 4.7745 million people (2022 data). In 2022, the total regional GDP of the city reached 230.11 billion yuan.
Yuncheng is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization, a national historical and cultural city, known as the "root of China", "land of integrity", and "city of great fortune". It is the hometown of Guan Gong and the location of Emperor Shun's Mausoleum, as well as an important modern agricultural base and emerging industrial city in Shanxi Province.
