Xinzhou City is located in the northern part of Shanxi Province, on the eastern edge of the Loess Plateau, and is the largest prefecture level city in Shanxi Province. The total area of the city is 25200 square kilometers, with jurisdiction over 1 district (Xinfu District), 1 city (formerly Ping City), 11 counties (Dingxiang County, Wutai County, Dai County, Fanzhi County, Ningwu County, Jingle County, Shenchi County, Wuzhai County, Kelan County, Hequ County, Baode County), and 1 autonomous county (Pianguan County), with a permanent resident population of 2.663 million people (2022 data). In 2022, the total regional GDP of the city will reach 150.26 billion yuan.
Xinzhou is a national historic and cultural city and an excellent tourist city in China. Known as the "key to the north of Shanxi" and "Buddhist holy land", it is the location of Mount Wutai, and also an important energy base and characteristic agricultural product advantage area in Shanxi Province.
