Taiyuan City is the capital of Shanxi Province, located in the central part of Shanxi Province, at the northern end of the Taiyuan Basin. The total area of the city is 6988 square kilometers, with jurisdiction over 6 districts (Xiaodian District, Yingze District, Xinghualing District, Jiancaoping District, Wanbailin District, Jinyuan District), 3 counties (Qingxu County, Yangqu County, Loufan County), and 1 city (Gujiao City), with a permanent population of 5.435 million people (2022 data). In 2022, the total regional GDP of the city reached 557.374 billion yuan.
Taiyuan is a national historical and cultural city with a history of over 2500 years, known as the "Beautiful Taiyuan City". As the political, economic, and cultural center of Shanxi Province, Taiyuan is one of China's important energy and heavy industry bases, as well as a comprehensive reform pilot zone for the transformation of the national resource-based economy.
