Bayannur City is located in the western part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, at the top of the "Ji" bend of the Yellow River, and is an important agricultural base in Inner Mongolia. The total area of the city is 64000 square kilometers, with jurisdiction over 1 district (Linhe District), 2 counties (Wuyuan County, Dengkou County), 4 banners (Urad Front Banner, Urad Middle Banner, Urad Rear Banner, Hangjin Rear Banner), and a permanent population of 1.539 million people (2022 data). In 2022, the total regional GDP of the city reached 108.13 billion yuan.
Bayannur is an important commodity grain base and green agricultural and livestock product production and processing base in China. It is known as the "granary of the Yellow River" and the "pearl of the Yellow River". It is the core area of the Hetao Plain and an important ecological barrier and energy base in western Inner Mongolia.
