Baotou City is located in the western part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, at the top of the "Ji" bend of the Yellow River, and is the largest industrial city in Inner Mongolia. The total area of the city is 27700 square kilometers, with jurisdiction over 6 districts (Kundulun District, Qingshan District, Donghe District, Jiuyuan District, Shiguai District, Baiyunebo Mining Area), 2 counties (Guyang County, Tumote Right Banner), and 1 banner (Dalhan Maoming'an United Banner), with a permanent population of 2.7094 million people (2022 data). In 2022, the total regional GDP of the city reached 374.99 billion yuan.
Baotou is an important industrial base and rare earth capital of the country, known as the "Grassland Steel City" and "Rare Earth Capital". It is an important node city in the Yellow River "Ji" shaped urban circle and an important energy, raw material, and equipment manufacturing base in Inner Mongolia.
